- I'm my manager's monthly staff meeting, and we're reviewing the numbers from the month and the results. And in the middle of that, I get a text from one of my teammates. And they're looking for advice on something we've been working on. And so I'm engaging them in text and trying to provide as best advice as I can through the tiny keyboard. And in the middle of that, my manager says, "So Scott, what do you think about this one?" And I look up and I realize that the conversation has moved on from when I left it. And I'm embarrassed and I offer a little bit of apology and I ask him to repeat the question. It's not helpful. And I see this happen all the time. People aren't present. It happens in video calls where someone is emailing during the video call. And it's clear that they're not there. I see it in couples, when one of the spouses or one of the couple is not listening.
