- After leaving a meeting, you may be all pumped to get started on a new project, but then you walk out of the door and you get sucked into something else and going back to your notes later and creating a list of next steps can be time consuming. Here's a way to stay organized and focused in any meeting. It starts while you're actually in the meeting. As you're taking notes, be purposeful about how you do it. Whenever I go into a meeting, I always have a separate piece of paper or a document out in front of me. That note is to capture any next steps, follow ups or research that I need to do once the meeting is over. Use that list throughout the meeting. Add anything you're responsible for as soon as it pops up. This way, you'll have a firm grasp on what needs to happen next.
