Meet the nice girl

(light uplifting music) - I often get asked, what do you mean by nice? When I think of someone who's nice at work, I think of someone who elevates the people around her, draws people in, cares deeply for others, is guided by values, and is authentically confident. The kind of confidence that there are enough opportunities to go around. Don't mistake nice with being a people pleaser. When we veer into people pleasing territory, we sabotage our chances of being successful. It's great to be positive, but sweeping things under the rug so that you won't make waves is not productive. Being helpful will get you far. Being subservient, not so much. Being humble makes you relatable. Being self-critical, where you're putting yourself down all the time, puts you in a position of weakness. So yes, we want to be nice, we want to be human, and bring our whole selves to work.
