Managing resistance in change projects

- We can probably all recall a time where change came along and we were less than happy about it. In their book, "Making Sense of Change Management," authors Cameron and Green suggested that there are five factors that are likely to influence an individual's response to change and therefore how much they may resist it. The first is the nature of change. How big is it? What is its purpose? How quickly is it to be delivered? And is it a single change or part of a wider series of changes? Next is the consequences of the change. It's typical here to hear, what's in it for me, or how does this affect me? The greater or the lesser the impact determines the individual response to the change. Then there's the organizational history. Individuals will reflect on how previous changes have been handled. Whether the organization has a good or a bad track record of introducing change will affect their response to this change.…
