In the world of change management business process management requires creating those valuable instructions to make sure things come out right.
Good business process management involves ensuring that the good idea behind a change initiative is translated to employees and their work once the change is in place. Here are common objectives for good business process management. The first objective for business process analysis is to validate organizational change objectives. Good change initiatives can significantly improve the abilities and efficiency of your organization. However, without proper analysis attempts to improve organizational processes can go very badly, resulting in confusion and difficulties in achieving objectives.
Through business process analysis understand current process strengths and weaknesses and validate the high-level improvements that can be implemented through your change initiatives. The second objective of business process management is to create the requirements needed to facilitate your changes. To do this work to gain a deep understanding of what the organization is doing the determine the details of what's happening today and the process change you can implement to make your organization more efficient.
You can capture that information using tools such as flow charts, providing step-by-step, as-is, and to-be processes. This captures what the current state of the organization is and what the new desires state and expected outcomes will be. User stories, these can help you provide a visual image of what people in the organization want to achieve. And lastly, context diagrams to describe relationships between business areas, clients, and how they work together.
The third objective for business process analysis is to manage the actual change process itself. This includes first validating any changes proposed during the course of the initiative and second, promoting any change ideas that come from staff members during the initiative. Sometimes these can be the most significant changes you can make. Third, managing changes to your actual process deliverables like product instructions or customer benefit descriptions that need to be made as a result of your change initiative.
Last, drive efficient and effective testing of any new products or processes associated with your change initiative. This can include the use of any technology products created as part of the change. This should also focus on any products or approaches produced as part of the early examples stage of your change initiative. And lastly, the final objective of business process management is to ensure your change completion criteria are accomplished. No change initiative should proceed without documented and agreed upon outcomes.
Without significant management focus it's easy for the initiative to go astray, compromising the outcomes your organization may desperately want. More than anything else business process management is put in place to continually evaluate the processes and tools produced during the change initiative. It also determines if your outcomes will be achieved as intended. You can then decide if adjustments are necessary to avoid compromising your outcomes. That's it, from the start of the initiative to its closing, if you perform sound business process management you'll likely get good results and all the toys you bring to your new business will generate smiles right outta the box without any reassembly.
