Manage a project crisis
- Most of the time projects go smoothly, but there have been a couple of times in my career when a struggling project turned into a full blown crisis. And if you're working as a project manager, chances are it'll happen to you eventually. So here are a couple of tips for dealing with that situation. First and foremost, you need to focus on the people. No one thinks or performs their best when they're stressed or they're scared. So you need to make sure that everyone's safe and let them know that you're genuinely concerned about their wellbeing. Then you need to assess the situation and put together a recovery plan. I created a system called the direct method that works really well for this and you can learn how to use it in my course about leading projects. Once the crisis is resolved, make some time to reflect on why it happened and what you could've done better, and how you can avoid that sort of situation in the future.…
