- Speakers often plan to wing the question and answer portion of a presentation. This is a huge mistake. The Q&A is a critical time when the audience can engage with you. I've seen lots of good presentations tank during Q&A. And I don't want that to happen to you. Here are six tips to help you nail this portion of your presentation. Number one, watch your use of fillers. After being asked a question, take a second to think about your answer. It honors the person who asked if you signal this was a question that required some thought. Skip the ums, take a breath, and then start answering. Number two, anticipate likely questions. If you've thought about who your audience is and what they need in planning your presentation, you should have a sense of the types of questions you'll be asked.
