Making the case: Why a macro and not regular Excel?

- Big question, why VBA and recorded macros Why not Excel power query or power pivot. I have three reasons. The first one is automation. A lot of times a job is just too big. One time I had Excel run from Friday night to Sunday night. It had to import and process 30,000 pages of data, only seven steps each, but 30,000 times, no program VBA to do that. Another reason for VBA and recorded macros, I call it peace of mind. Let's say we have to build a tool for somebody who does not want to deal with Excel or data, or they aren't trained and is scared of messing something up, record a macro and give them a button to push and let it run. The third reason. There are things that you can't get done in Excel, power query or power pivot. Check out this example in a bunch of sales, I needed to strip out the names, but the names weren't always in the same position, but they all were bold. Excel power query, power pivot cannot recognize differences in fonts, but VBA can. And those are three reasons why VBA and recorded macros are so helpful.
