Make yourself an available mentor
- To mentor, or not to mentor? That is the question. Before committing to a mentee, ask yourself if you're truly available to serve as a mentor along these four dimensions. Expertise. Is this mentee right for me? Do I have the skills and expertise that they're looking to learn from? If the answer is no, the better thing to do may be to facilitate a powerful connection to someone else who does. Schedule. Do I have the time to be present with this person? Don't agree to meet unless you can be fully present. Even if that means saying that the earliest you can meet is in a month or two. From there, establish realistic expectations for engagement. Attention. If you can't meet that's not a deal-breaker per say, be clear about what value you can provide in the meantime.
