- You've probably heard the expression show me your calendar and I'll show you what you really value. That's because your calendar is the place where your priorities come to life. On a personal level someone might say his family is his number one priority. But if you look at how he's spending his time and he barely manages an hour or two a week with them, you wonder if he's being honest with himself. The same thing is true with your team's priorities. Time is their most precious asset. Based on how they're spending their time, what does your team really value? Not fulfilling priorities doesn't usually come from a bad place. Your team knows what's important and they want to do it. They just never seem to get the chance, because life and other more urgent things intervenes. That's why your job as a manager is so critical here. You need to run interference to make sure your team has the bandwidth to focus on what's most critical.
