Locus of control

- Nearly 25 years ago, I traveled to the Greek island where my husband and I planned to be married. I grew up there. I knew the locals and had a very good idea of how the logistics of our wedding would unfold. Now planning a major event a year in advance was not common in Greece in the early '90s, but since I was living in the US, I had no other choice. The invariant response I encountered when I went to the baker, the priest, the restaurant owner reminded me that I had lived in the States, a country with and internal locus of control, far too long. I was told again and again, even scolded, "What? "Next year? "Who lives and who dies by next year? "You may decide to marry a different guy by next year." This perspective of the islanders touches upon a very core of locus of control.
