- So many of the things that have happened to me have been totally beyond my control and totally unpredictable beforehand. And the reason that I was able to take those opportunities is that I did my part to prepare myself in whatever way I could so that when these random opportunities came to me, I would know what to do with them. I think the fact that I wasn't really discovered as a model until my last semester in college was actually a godsend. At first, in those years, I felt like I was always at a disadvantage because the girls or women my age were that much further, had started in high school or just after high school and that they were much more developed in their career even though they were the same age. And I thought that was a handicap. But now on the other side of it, I can look back and I can say that I would never have a career in food.
