- All of us want to grow in our careers, right? Well, we have the power to do just that. Career development is a shared responsibility between managers and employees. Career planning is driven by the individual. And the focus is on identifying personal interests, planning personal goals, designing a career path, seeking out learning and development opportunities, and communicating those aspirations and preferences with managers. Career management is driven by the organization, and involves managers identifying staffing needs, matching the organization's needs with employee capabilities, and providing opportunities for development.
