- A Gallup Poll of more than one million people working in the U.S. concluded that the number one reason employees quit their job is a bad boss or leader. Replacing people is expensive, and in the government, it's also a time-consuming process full of regulations, policies, and politics. So leaders need to figure out how to retain valuable employees, and two of the best tools you can use are coaching and feedback. Coaching starts with the intentional forming of a relationship with a person to help them achieve their goals. Coaching is specific directions or the posing of questions to help the employee figure their way forward.
