Know your audience

- So part of the process of how to ask is three what I call knows to a yes. The first know is knowing your audience. This is who you're talking to, this is who you have the meeting with, and it's really critical that you understand whether or not they have the interest and the capacity to give you what you're asking for, whether it's a raise or whether it's funding for your company or whether it's a new customer you're seeking, you want to make sure that the person you're talking to has the capacity to do that. Sometimes, people come into pitch me or send me a deck that is a biotechnology company, or it could be a really interesting company that is building parts for a rocket to go to space. Those aren't in my investment thesis, so it's very difficult for me to understand, even if they are building the most interesting, most profitable company in the world, I don't have the background to evaluate it and I don't have the interest in funding things that I don't have a background in.
