- It was a day in October, and it was a normal day in Montclair, New Jersey. I was heading to one of my best friend's house ahead of Halloween, and a phone call came in, and it happened to be from a recruiter that I had known, and he said to me that Sheryl Sandberg wanted to speak with me about an opportunity at Facebook, and I thought to myself, "You have got to be kidding me." I had always admired Facebook. As a matter of fact, when I was at MTV Networks, I was part of the team that tried to buy Facebook, and so I've been following the company from its infancy, and yet at the same time, I had literally just started at Microsoft in June, so I had been at Microsoft for essentially not even four months when that phone call came in, and I didn't think that I should have that meeting, and he said to me, "This is potentially "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," and I realized in my heart of hearts that I had to have that meeting.
