- I'm sure you're familiar with the phrase, you get what you pay for. That applies just as well to business focused PMOs as it does to anything else. It's great to identify how the function can improve the performance of projects. But unless that's backed up by investment, nothing will change. When organizations commit to a business focused PMO, they must recognize they're committing to an investment in the function on an ongoing basis. These are not temporary functions. They're a permanent part of how the business operates. The good news is that the commitment leadership is making really is an investment, it's going to generate a return. It may take two or three business cycles for the PMO to become profitable, to deliver more benefits than it costs. But once it's established, it will continue to deliver significant improvements with real benefits to the organization's bottom line.
