- [Instructor] Social psychologists divide people into two categories, depending on how much individuals believe they influence the events that affect them. Those who are initiators take action, claim responsibility for their own lives, and believe their successes and failures result from their own behavior. By contrast, those labeled victims divert responsibility from themselves and believe powerful others, fate, or chance control their destiny. Most people exist somewhere in between. Your personal locus of control reveals how you see the world, and your mindset, either flexible or fixed, determines how you see yourself. Focus on what you can change, not on what you can't. Step up by acting on your potential to learn and grow, and by sharing your experience, knowledge, and insights.
