Influencing fundamentals

- There are often some misconceptions around the topic of influencing. Often, participants of our training confuse influencing and manipulation as the same thing. If we fear that when we look to influence stakeholders we could stray into manipulation then we're going to be unwilling to put these skills into practice. Looking at the definitions of each word helps us make this distinction. Manipulation is the process of controlling others by focusing on our own greed or using other's fears. This process is often short-term and entirely centered on the manipulator and their desired outcome. On the other hand, influencing is more about creating a positive and mutually beneficial environment where others are motivated to support you in your goals.
