- I make some unusual additions to my to-do or could-do lists. I list the thing itself, how much time I think it's going to take, how much money is involved going in or out. And then on a scale of 1 to 10, I list my level of inclination. How inclined am I to do this actual task right now? Now, this is not how much I want the result of doing the task. Of course I want the result. It's how much do I feel like actually doing the actual thing? One, I don't really feel like it at all. 10, I can't wait. This practice has a couple of important benefits. One, it takes into account desire. Desire is the gas in your tank. You may notice that the things you want to do, you pretty much do. And the things you don't want to do, you pretty much don't do until you absolutely have to. So understanding where your desire is can help you notice what's really got you motivated.
