- As a consultant, one of the most common things I'm tasked with doing is facilitating discussions and decisions. And one of the tools I use to reach agreement is effective listening. It's important to be able to listen for and hear when people are starting to come together so that you can take advantage of that to move the group forward. So I want to talk you through a few of the ways that you can use listening to foster agreement. First off, when people feel listened to, some really cool things happen. They're more likely to listen in return. They'll actually listen to what you have to say. They're more likely to trust in what you're saying and engage in honest conversation. And they're more likely to actually see you as somebody they can work with.
