- Before I go to the grocery store, I often take stock of what I already have in my pantry. I want to get those things I need or I'm out of and I don't want to buy something I already have plenty of. The same goes for when you start digging into data. Start by taking a look at what you already have access to. Data, especially in organizations, can be spread out and feel well-hidden. Yet there's often tons of data sitting right there in front of us we can use. So first, start with yourself. What do you have access to? Ask yourself questions like: What's my job? What information do I use? What do I input on the computer screen? Or, who do I interact with and what do we talk about? These might seem like really simple questions, but that's the great part.
