- Let's identify some of the internal players you're most likely to consider for your crisis communication response team. Typically, you'll find these players in four key groups. First, your executive leadership needs to be informed of every major crisis. Their level of activity on the team may vary. For severe and imminent threats, your CEO is likely to be very heavily involved in every level of crisis communication response. Quite often, top executives will serve as company spokespeople during a crisis. However, your organizational response to a less urgent threat may only require that the CEO or board stay informed of your team's progress on resolving the issue. Whatever the threat or crisis may be, your executive leadership needs to at least be informed and aware. Second, people who are responsible for setting operating policies that involve the crisis need to be on the team. These team members are usually the department heads. Let me give you two examples.
