Identify coworkers’ emotions
- This is your new team member, who you don't know too well yet. You've just announced several parts that need to be added to the current project. What does her expression indicate? How is she feeling about the new work? Is she concerned about resources, is she annoyed at the scope creep? Or is she suffering from a about of indigestion? To make sure these new project tasks get done properly, you want to understand what she's experiencing, and why. How do you figure this out, especially when you don't know her that well? In order to empathize effectively, in addition to understand someone's perspective, you also need to identify, accurately, what they are feeling, so that you can then effectively tap in to that emotion.
