How to support a successful retirement program

- It's up to you, the HR professional, to make sure your company's retirement benefits program is effective. The better job you do, the better off your employees will be. But you shouldn't have to do this on your own. To build a successful internal strategy that supports your retirement benefit plan, consider establishing a financial well-being committee. In many countries, you're legally obliged to ensure that your plan is the most supportive and cost-effective program possible. In the US, for example, the labor department can come in and audit your retirement plan. So your committee should be composed of a variety of stakeholders, including executives, members of the HR team, and members of other departments. And its members need to come from a diverse range of demographic backgrounds. The committee also needs a senior member of the finance department, like the CFO, to oversee plan offerings, negotiate with retirement plan managers and advisors, and review costs.
