How should I prepare for disruptions?
- Most of the time, supply chains do a really good job of getting us the things that we want when and where we want them. But once in a while, supply chains gets disrupted, either because there's a big change in demand or there's an interruption in supply, and you need to have strategies to deal with that. Now, of course, one way to deal with an interruption in supply is to have safety stock inventory, but there are some other things that you can do that might work better and cost less money. The first one to think about is having alternate suppliers. If there are many places that you can go to buy something, you're less likely to have a problem if one of them can't supply it. The next one is sharing or transferring inventory. Think about that neighbor that comes over to borrow a cup of sugar. Really what they're doing is transferring inventory from you to them.
