How much should I talk about what they need versus what I want?

(high energy music) - Me, you, me. Should I talk about what they need, or what I want in my cover letter? I'd go with the 80/20 rule on this one, or even 100/0. When an organization looks for someone to fill a role, they are looking to satisfy a business need. They want to find someone who can help them solve problems, cut costs, grow profits, expand into new markets, and so forth. In other words, they want you to talk about how you can satisfy their needs, as your A number one priority. For sure your future employer is going to care a bunch about what you want, once you've established yourself as a valuable candidate or employee, but at those earliest stages of the interview process, you got to make it about them.
