How to grant intelligent autonomy

- Raise your hand out there if you love to be micromanaged. I doubt there are any takers. And yet we know that 40% of employees say their boss micromanages them to some extent. Now think of the opposite for a moment. When you have autonomy and freedom to achieve an objective as you see fit, it's intensely meaningful and motivating. You can foster these feelings in your employees by granting what I call intelligent autonomy. You see, granting autonomy, it actually has a dark side. You can unwittingly get it wrong. For example, ever have a boss tell you go ahead, you've got this. Then what happens? At the first sign of trouble, they come swooping back in on the side to fix things, not good.
