- One of the things I learned about LinkedIn is that they view work relationships as a tour of duty. When people move on to other work, they call that their Next play. Now, one last thing you'll need to think about is when and if you should think about where you're going next. To be clear, there's no set amount of time for how long you should stay at a company. The real question is whether your company is meeting your needs for growth. Developers generally feel satisfied about their current jobs. However, most are still open to opportunities. Although most are looking for better compensation, they also enjoy things like working with new technologies, growth or leadership opportunities, and an excellent work-life balance.
