How do I address a career gap?

(upbeat music) (cheering) - How do address a career gap in your cover letter? Well I always say, if you think they're going to wonder about something, just assume that they will. This is absolutely the case with the career gap. Rather than pray that no one's going to notice, go on the offense and control the message. Your cover letter is a great place to do this. You can do this early on in the cover letter as you're explaining why you want to work for this organization and how you discovered the opportunity. So for instance, maybe you say "As I prepared to return "to my Accounting career after having spent a year "caring for an aging family member, "I've been thinking about companies I'd love to represent. "You are at the top of this list and here's why." Make it succinct, be unapologetic about it and then move on to why you want to work there and what you have to offer. (upbeat music with laughter)
