How to approach this question

- This is basically tell me about yourself but with the expectation that you'll outline some specific details about what brought you into the profession and then share a few key accomplishments from your career to date. Something you'll want to keep in mind as you tackle this answer is that your interviewer is not looking for you to stare down at your resume and read it back to them line for line, and there's an extremely strong probability they know how to read already. So there's no need to rehash it line by line. (upbeat music) Instead, share your story. Why sales, how did you get there, and what keeps you in the profession? What do you love best about working in the field that you represent or you're interviewing for? Next, pick a few career highlights that seem particularly relevant to the job that you're applying for, especially the more recent ones, and then provide a little bit of additional color beyond what your resume may share. This is where yes, you can point to a few things in your resume and briefly expound on them to drive the point home, but again, do not, and I mean do not, read the resume verbatim. That's going to torture everyone involved. So say your resume mentions how you increased revenue by 40% last year and gives a really quick overview of how you pulled it off. Here's where you might provide some of the back story or additional detail to give your sales background a bit more color and allow decision-makers to envision your career path. Help them see your successes and how you might fit in at their company. In other words, you can use this question to dive a bit deeper than you may have on your resume, but again, resist the urge to keep your head buried and read it line by line.
