How to approach this question

(uplifting music) - There's a very strong chance that in your work as a sales professional, you're going to get asked a question from a client or a prospect that you simply don't know the answer to. Your interviewer knows this and will very likely ask you how you handle this exact scenario. How can you approach this question? By making it clear that you're ready and can respond to it without missing a beat. Important things to factor in as you formulate your answer to this question include these things, number one, if it's accurate to do so, let your interviewer know that you wouldn't hesitate to let a customer know right up front that you're not an expert on that particular thing but you'll work hard to find an answer. Your interviewer and customers generally don't expect you to know every answer to every question. What they will expect is willingness to find that answer and report back in a timely manner. So if you're asked to provide a specific example, maybe you go with something like, you know what, that's an excellent question. I'd hate to guess on something that specific, so I'm going to go check with Tony Rodriguez. He's our lead developer on the product team. Let me do a little bit of investigating and I'll get back with you by the end of the day. This example would show your interviewer that you're not somebody who's just going to make something up. Instead, you've got the ability and the commitment to find an answer and find it fast. And you're also someone who is all about the follow-up.
