- Hi, I'm Aimee Bateman, Founder and CEO of Careercake.com, and in this course I'm going to talk to you about how to ask for, and then get, a pay rise. Now, the first thing to remember is that companies absolutely expect to have these conversations with employees, okay, it's totally okay to ask for your salary to be reviewed. There's a certain way that you have to go about it, there's certain things that you shouldn't say, and things to do in order to improve your chances, and remember that, to think like the employer. They'd much rather you go in there and ask for an increase in your salary, or maybe in your benefits, than for you to walk in and hand your notice in because, yeah, it can be really expensive and really risky and quite stressful to replace you. So don't dread it, don't think, "Oh, you know, I don't want to be seen "as the troublesome employee." Or, "I don't want to get anybody's backs up." Or, "I don't want to annoy anybody." Just go through this course with me, we'll put everything together in terms of how to prepare, how to conduct the meeting, how to work out what you should ask for, all of the things that you can come back with, we'll predict all of the potential responses that they could give you, and then we'll talk about how to follow up, okay? We're going to get this right.
