- Most of the PMOs I've worked with started off as an army of one, but with growing responsibilities and rising expectations, PMO leaders need to grow their teams. There are several roles that function within the PMO. These include project managers, business analysts, and PMO coordinators. So as a PMO leader, how do you determine who to hire? I've never looked for perfect candidates because they don't exist. My goal instead has been to find the person most suited for the role. Typically, candidates are chosen based on their experience, academic background, and industry credentials, such as project management certifications. But the real challenge when evaluating candidates is to see past their resume and LinkedIn profile to determine whether they truly have the right qualities.
