- There's a big difference between educating managers on the fundamentals of accounting and having them truly embrace it. I'm talking here about ownership and accountability. In 2012, a client of mine asked me to put together a financial literacy training pack for the IT group's managers. He said that they don't even understand the basics of accounting, they can't manage their budgets, and in general, are financially illiterate. I was more than happy to work on this project, but I also wanted to make sure that the learning goals were crystal clear, and of course, that they'd see rapid positive changes. So I asked my client, "How do you plan "to hold the managers to account?"
