Gwen Stefani on being clear on who you are

- When anyone asks me about advice, I get real nervous. You know? Like I really don't feel like giving advice. I think that being on The Voice, I got to have a little bit of experience with coaching and like thinking about how I did things. And I think the one thing I can look at myself and say, what did I do consistently to get to this point? And I think that would be, to be really clear about who I am and owning the fact that we're all unique and to be proud of that and to go with that and not try to be something that you're not. Then you'll be, you'll stick out, 'cause we're all very, very different. But yet, all the same. In the early days, like everything was so homemade. There was nobody telling us what to do or how to do things. Nobody telling me how to put my makeup on or how skinny to be or what costume to wear, what song to write. And I think that was a really important thing because it means that we were really ourselves. The inspiration just came from like the creation, you know, like to be able to create and express yourself. And sometimes I think, yeah, mentoring is important to be inspired by people, but I truly think people need to like just go inward and go what do I like, who am I? And express that. And that's, I think, the best, that's what I feel like I've done. I haven't had like a lot of people that I go, I want to be like them when I grow up. Like Julie Andrews or Emmylou Harris or like, just different singers along the way. There was a band called Fishbone, that we used to go to all their shows and of course. But I honestly say that like, you know, really it's all about like finding who you are.
