- It happens to all of us. You get in a funk about something like your job or something in your personal life and you start to feel sorry for yourself. I normally have a very cheery and sunny disposition. But it happens to me, too. And you know what I do? You guessed it, I make a list. This time, it's a gratitude list. Trust me, it works. There's even science to back the whole thing up. For my book "Listful Living," I interviewed psychologist Dr. Ben Michaelis about this exact thing. He said it's actually not our fault. Evolution has conditioned us to be highly biased towards negative information. That's because it could be a threat to our well-being.
