- [Instructor] Have you ever heard of SMART goals? They're specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based. They're also usually kind of boring and uninspiring, because they limit your thinking. SMART goals tend to be small and task oriented. And they're usually assigned by your boss. These are things like do the marketing report by Friday. You know, I doubt Steve Jobs put an iPhone in motion with a SMART goal. Implementing the rollout, maybe. Creating it, probably not. SMART goals often result in you playing small and that doesn't serve anyone. Leading yourself requires that you do more than what's asked of you. It requires you to set strategic goals for yourself. Strategic goals are bigger, more complex, and they require more than just checking a box that you did it.
