Give wild ideas a chance
- When I ask a live audience if they're open to big ideas, the answer is always a resounding yes! People constantly tell me how much they love big, creative, wild ideas, but in the context of brainstorming with their teams, maybe not so much. And it's understandable. Most of of us have spent enough time in an office to earn our right to be what I call a professional skeptic. Skepticism has kept us focused and efficient, but it hasn't really done much to strengthen our imagination. Before we can come up with a truly disruptive idea, we have to be open to unexpected and even surprising ideas, like, say, tires in vibrant colors instead of just black. During your next brainstorm, start giving wild ideas a chance instead of just dismissing them. Try a creative technique called PPCO. The first P stands for pluses.
