Getting results vs. safety

- One of the oldest and most frequent conflicts in values that companies face is between getting results and being safe. And the reasons are probably the most obvious in a manufacturing environment so that's the setting we'll use for this scenario. Okay, imagine you work at a company that makes car parts. They run three shifts a day, seven days a week, all year long, pumping out millions of parts a month. Now, the equipment to make those parts is really expensive, which is why it's important to use the machines around the clock so they don't have to buy more machines. And the faster they can run the machines, obviously, the better. But these machines can also be dangerous, right. They're stamping out heavy metal parts and that requires a lot of force to bend the metal into just the right shapes.
