Getting familiar with your speaking content
- You want to know your material backwards and forwards before it's time to deliver. But if you practice it the same way every time, you're probably going to end up memorizing, and I can't stress enough, this is not the way you want to go. One way to avoid this is to talk about your presentation, rather than practicing it verbatim. Yeah, so they asked me to talk about leadership to a group of new managers. So I'm thinking for about a 30-minute talk I'm going to start off with a story from the time when I was a first-time manager, and then go into three specific points. I think I'm going to start off with humility as one of the key things that I want them to remember. Because as you know, if you don't have humility, you will be humbled. Talking about your presentation will help you get more comfortable with the content and avoid the mistake of memorizing.
