- Americans are so deeply generous, so deeply generous, and I think I've seen it in covering hurricanes, in tornadoes, people who've lost their homes, people who've lost everything on their back. When we were covering Hurricane Harvey, we were reporting just across the street from the Convention Center, and I can remember an elderly woman passing by with a girl who was maybe 10 or 11. And it was raining, and it was about 40 degrees, 45 degrees, it was cold. And the young girl was walking barefoot. She had no shoes. It was like she had quickly run out of her house. There was a man who was checking into a hotel. He stopped and took off what looked like a brand new pair of very expensive running shoes and his socks, and he gave them to the girl. And they were so incredibly grateful. And I thought this is it. This is all that matters 'cause this guy didn't say, "I need these shoes, "I need this, this is someone in need."…
