- I would say that in a small company, if you're a relatively modest HR department, you're probably going to have one person that's going to do this, and that person probably has to have some background in data and statistics and math, and also really know how your company works, so that they can do analysis that's relevant and useful. You're going to need somebody who understands data sequel, data quality, working with IT, but then you're going to also need people that can make sense of the data that can communicate what we're finding, that can consult with the business and test the results and see if they really make sense, because sometimes you'll see something in the data, and you'll think wow, that's a huge finding and then you'll go over and you'll talk to the business people and they're like, well we already knew that.
