- I once talked with someone who had spent about six months working on a big idea without testing it out or getting any real feedback. When she launched it, it didn't work. In fact it was a total flop. She made zero sales and, in fact, learned that there was a fundamental, fatal flaw in the whole idea. This was painful to hear about and even more painful for her of course, because a lot of that process was unnecessary. Not every idea is going to be a success but if something's going to fail, it's much better to find out sooner. Again, your time is valuable. That's why it's so important to have a real-world test sooner rather than later. In the Side Hustle book I encourage people to get their project off the ground, at least in a working, basic fashion, within a month. Now that timeline is some what arbitrary, could be a little shorter or little longer for you. The point is that you should do it as quickly as possible.
