How to get past gatekeepers
- Now, I have five top tips for anybody who's about to deal with a gatekeeper. If anybody every says to me, Miles, how can I get around these guys? This is what I'll tell them. These are really important five tips. Some of them are a little bit risky, but hear me out. So, the first one is to befriend them. As I said in the opening section, these people have a lot of power to either pass you through to the decision maker or maybe even speak to them themselves. So, always be nice to them. At least be professional. And when you call them, say, oh hi, it's Miles again, calling from wherever, and learn their name. That's a really crucial bit, 'cause that's personal. That's absolutely music to their ears. I always think about, there's a film called Wall Street, in which Charlie Sheen actually befriend a receptionist and every time he turns up, he brings some chocolate and some flowers.
