- In all of my years working with teams and leaders of teams, there are a couple of truths that I've encountered over and over again. First, it's never within the power of just one person to create a great team. No matter how effective of a leader you are, you cannot create greatness alone. Second, teamwork is never made better by increased technical savvy. Team issues, from my experience, have always stemmed from a dysfunction of navigating relationships. I really appreciate Patrick Lencioni, author of "Five Dysfunctions of a Team", who was one of the most prominent thinkers on team effectiveness. He breaks down team effectiveness into five dysfunctions that teams experience that keep them from being highly effective.
