- So finding the right investor. This is really mission-critical. This can make or break your business. One of the best things about having investors is not just the capital. It's also the expertise that they have, the experience in the area, and the networks that they will bring to the table to help your company succeed. One of the things I always like to do is to tell people to take a look on the internet and see who's funded companies that are sort of analogous to what you're doing. You don't want to go with a direct competitor, and all this information is publicly available, but if you can find those investors that have invested in the a company that is similar to your business, maybe it's not in the same exact vertical, but maybe it's the same style. Like, if you are now the Kayak for retirement communities, maybe you'd go and look at someone who has funded Kayak or Priceline.
