- In my career as a financial planner, I've seen many people go through job changes. I'm often right there in the mix with them helping to put the financial pieces together. While I'm certain that if you are listening to this, potentially losing your job is a stressful situation. But my best advice, is to try your best to maintain your composure during your final days at work. Once you've been notified that you're going to be laid off, it's time to start thinking about how to finalize your exit from the company. Sometimes layoffs can be swift, and you have very little time to react. If you are able to, transfer any personal files off of your computer, and take any personal items home with you. Make sure you follow any relevant company policies when doing this. Be sure not to take any company files or confidential information with you, because that could open you up to legal trouble.
