Cold calling is still a possible way for you to reach out and get what you need from a media outlet. In this video, learn how to make it more effective cold calls.
- Step two is all about relationships and the heart of landing coverage. When I first started this journey, I came from television. I only really knew television producers. I didn't really know anyone in print or online media, so I had to pick up the phone and utilize the internet to cold call people, and that's all I did. I picked up the phone, I cold called, and I got a response. If I got someone interested, I would ask for their email. From that email, I would send them a pitch. So this is how I got started building relationships. I didn't know anyone. I am just like you. Now things are quite different, so you can see that. You can find just about anything you want on the internet. You can find people, the stories they write, their Instagram handles, their Facebook pages. So I get resourceful when I'm looking for new media contacts. I look for somebody I might know that they might know that's in television or PR, and I utilize these contacts to help me get to the media and build my relationships. There's a vast number of outlets out there, and they need good content for their audience, so you have to keep that in mind. Great media relationships are essential for you to build your press kit with all of your press clippings from all of the online articles that you're going to be in or in print publications.
