- It's really important to understand influencing and to become good at it, because every interaction you have with anybody, ever, involves some sort of influencing. Because why are you having that interaction? And it must be because you both want something. Otherwise, why have you met? So the person who initiates the meeting has something in mind. There's some reason they've asked you to see them. So they are going to try and influence you for some sort of purpose. And then the person who agrees to the meeting also agrees to it for a reason. So they're thinking, "Well, I'll have this meeting because there's something in it for me." Now, this sounds very Machiavellian, and it doesn't have to be like that, because quite often we're asking somebody to do something that's good or something that's for the benefit of both of us.
